

Andover Troop 6052 has been busy this year,
especially doing community service like their MSPCA project, pictured above.
They sold a lot of cookies, too!

Girl Scouts celebrated Founder's Day at Heritage Plantation -- in the
founder's car!


Lexington Troop 1675 went to Accurate
Automotive and Tire Warehouse in Bedford to learn basic safety procedures on
cars. They checked oil and tire pressure, and tire tread with a penny. The
girls "worked" on the truck of Brian Hohmann, owner of Accurate Automotive
When the girls are faced with caring for their own cars, they can say, "Oh,
that's easy, I did it when I was a kid!"


In pursuit of
the Cookies Count Try-It,
Littleton Troop 6340 was treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of Donelan’s
Littleton store, led by manager George Raimon. It included stops in
the bakery, produce prep area, dairy cooler, ice cream freezer and meat
room, and wrapped up with snacks in front of the fireplace. Seated: Camille

West Newbury Troop 75 sponsored a food drive to
benefit Pettengill House in Salisbury, where the girls visited and learned
how little food it has this time of year. The girls designed a competitive
food drive at Page School, involving the school administration and all
classrooms. At the end of two weeks, the classroom collecting the most
food donation items won, and received extra recess time. They gathered
933 food items for Pettengill House!

As part of their Bronze Award project, Littleton
Troop 6207 hosted a sew-in to benefit ConKerrCancer.org. Girl Scouts and
neighbors from Littleton, Groton and Devens turned out to support the
troop’s goal of making 100 pillowcases to be donated to the organization.


GSEM girls traveled to the Everglades
as the culmination of a project with Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast
Florida.
They visited the Shark Valley region, learning about the sawgrass
prairie and hammock ecosystems; canoed the Turner River, one of the
historic freshwater rivers that feeds the river of grass and is being
damaged by fertilizer runoff and water diversion to growing cities; and
canoed the Chokoloskee Bay and islands, learning about the effects on
wildlife of changing water levels, pesticide runoff, and hurricanes. They
worked with National Park Rangers to learn about preservation efforts, met
with Rangers to learn about volunteer opportunities in the National Parks
System, and stayed in a campground that is operated by volunteer hosts. They
visited Big Cypress National Preserve, and learned about reclamation efforts
and studies in place about Florida panthers. The Danvers Rotary sponsored
part of this trip.

Certificates of Merit for girls earning the Bronze Award, from State
Representative Cleon Turner.

In honor of the 96th birthday of Girl Scouts,
members of Stow Troops 2528 and 2529 created Birthday Bags for the Stow Food
Pantry and Goody Bags for Birthday Wishes. Brownie Troop 2528 used profits
from their Girl Scout Cookie sale to purchase party ingredients for 80
Birthday Bags. Birthday Wishes brings parties to homeless children in
Mass. The girls made 83 Goody Bags full of party favors and candy.

Amesbury Troops 501, 1227 and 84 filled over 500
Easter baskets for Our Neighbor's Table with members of the community.
The baskets went out to needy children at schools, Pettingil House, Our
Neighbor's Table and Women's Crisis Center. Each troop donated items such as
candy, coloring books, stuffed animals, toys, and toiletries for the Easter
baskets.
