Governance: Delegate Job Description The responsibilities of a Delegate are
outlined in the
By-Laws.
The Regional Delegate is an elected member of
the corporation. Regional Delegates in combination with the Board of
Directors and members of the Board Nominating and Development Committee
constitute the Council per
By-Laws, Article I.
A Regional Delegate influences policy formation through the following
responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Elect the officers of the Council and
other officers as described in the
By-Laws,
Article V
- Suggest general lines of direction for
Girl Scout movement locally by receiving and acting upon reports of the
Board of Directors and by giving guidance to the Board
- Amend By-Laws and Articles of
Incorporation per By-Laws
- Take all other actions requiring a vote by
members of the Council
- Conduct such other business as may come
before the delegates from time to time
Qualifications:
- Registered member of the GSUSA, age 14 or
older
- An abiding belief in the values inherent
in the Girl Scout movement.
- Ability to travel to Council meetings
within the GSEM jurisdiction
- Ability to represent diverse views about
the direction of the Girl Scout movement, despite personal opinion
- Knowledgeable about the Girl Scout
movement in the Region
- Knowledgeable about the GSEM By-Laws.
- Ability to distinguish policy matters as
separate from procedural and administrative matters.
- Ability to take constructive approach to
problem solving.
- Good communication skills.
In addition to the above, experience in the
following areas is desirable:
- Current or past service on community
boards and commissions
- Current or past service in community
diversity initiatives
- Past service on a Girl Scout Board or
Nominating Committee
- Current service as a troop leader or advisor
(all age levels)
- Current service as a member of a Service
Unit, Area Association or Neighborhood leadership group
The new council territory is broad, and regional
delegates will not represent service units or area associations.
When a Regional Delegate position is vacant,
the Board of Directors may fill vacancy with an elected Alternate Delegate
from the same region. |
